Get a Grip
You’re working with a pair of heavy kettle bells in the weight room, halfway through a set, and you feel them start to slip in your fingers.
What should you do?
You can keep going, grip harder and move faster, hoping to finish your set before your grip fails. Going harder is always better, right? Never give up!
Of course, there’s a real possibility that you’ll drop the weights on your foot, break a bone, and “give up” six-to-eight weeks of your summer season, because you wanted to push through.
Or you could just set the weights down and get a better grip.
You’re grinding through the summer, working out every single day, playing several games through the week and daily double-header tournaments on the weekends. But you’re getting a little tired, practice isn’t as fun any more, the games start to drag, and your focus is getting a little fuzzy.
What should you do?
One day a week, do something other than baseball. Hang out with friends. Go to a movie. Go fishing. Do whatever you like to do that doesn’t require a bat, a ball or a glove. Recharge your batteries. Rest your body. Refresh your mind.
Let it go, and get a better grip!
